Gym-goers are eagerly waiting for the day when the government will allow gyms to re-open. However, looking at the current situation, that day may not come any time soon.
In this case, there are two things you can do to stay fit at home. You can do basic bodyweight exercises, so you get that active feeling and mental satisfaction, or, you can build your own gym at home and stay on top of your fitness goals.
Having your own home gym offers you multiple benefits: you save the time and money needed for commuting, you can exercise whenever you want, you don’t have to wait at a station for your turn, you can exercise with your family, and most importantly, you can work out safely in the comfort of your home.
What’s even better is, you can build your own home gym within your budget. Just follow these tips:
Decide your fitness goals
Decide whether you want to focus on weight loss, muscle building, endurance or flexibility. It will help you choose the right equipment and prevent unnecessary expenses.
Allocate a room
Having a dedicated space will make it convenient for you to exercise without moving or arranging your stuff daily. Moreover, you will also be able to avoid distractions from your family members and not bother them either. If you cannot allocate a separate room, you can make space in any of your rooms or even in your balcony. Once you have allocated a space, get the measurements of the area so you can buy equipment accordingly.
Buy necessary equipment
You should have a set of basic equipment based on your fitness goals. For example, if you are buying for cardio and fitness, you can buy a foam roller, an abs wheel, stability ball and cardio machines among others, depending upon your budget. If you are buying for strength, you should get an adjustable bench, dumbbell sets, pull-up bar and lifting bar.
Invest in flooring material
Do not skip flooring material as it will help you in multiple ways. If you are doing yoga, aerobics and stretching, padded flooring can provide you added stability and comfort. In case of weights, you must get free-weight flooring pads or tiles to prevent damage to your floor. If you are budget-conscious, you can only buy flooring material for a particular part of your room where you will train with weights or perform exercises.
Get a wall mirror
The right form is of utmost importance in any exercise, and without a mirror, you can never know your form. Moreover, concentrating on your muscles by looking at them in the mirror while you exercise, which is also known as the mind-muscle approach, is said to provide better results.
Now all you need is a budget to get started. Do some research on the internet about the pricing of these items, finalise a budget that suits you, and invest in items accordingly.
